Cancun, Mexico and the Wating Game
We decided to take a break from our “waiting game” and met two of our grandchildren, and their parents of course, in Cancun, Mexico for a week. It was so nice to see them and spend some quality time as they still live in New York but are moving out to Arizona at the end of June. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) we will be two ships passing in the night. We are still hoping for our Italian passports and our departure for June 2016.
While in Cancun, we did one amazing excursion with the entire family. We highly recommend this adventure as it was out of this world. We went swimming in the caves at Rio Secreto. It is a nature reserve and an experience you will never forget. (pictures coming soon) I remember learning in school, way back when, about stalactites and stalagmites but never have seen them in this setting!!! We actually walked through the caves and went in and out of the beautiful (COLD) water. Sometimes we couldn’t touch the bottom! We had on a wet-suit and helmets with lights. While I wait for my stepdaughter to send me the pictures we bought, here are some other photos of the beach to share with you.
We also came across these cute animals throughout the resort called Coatis. They are part of the raccoon family. Adult coatis measure 33 to 69 cm (13 to 27 in) from head to the base of the tail, which can be as long as their bodies. Coatis are about 30 cm (12 in) tall, and weigh between 2 and 8 kg (4.4 and 17.6 lb), about the size of a large house cat.
I will say the beach was filled with coral and I actually cut my calf on it one day when the water was a bit rough. We have lived in Arizona for 27 years and never went to Mexico other than a quick cruise to Ensenada and Cabo. Cancun was really nice and the resort was tropical. Of course the humidity took a toll on my hair as I am so used to the dry conditions of Arizona, we got off the plane and my hair bloomed about four sizes!!
It was a nice break and a great time with family but of course… we are back to waiting. Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!
